The vineyards of the Regional Park
Between plains and mountains, this selection of wine estates in the Luberon takes you through South Luberon, from countryside to forests, through villages brimming with unique charm. Many of its picturesque stops are proud to hold the ‘Vignobles & Découvertes’ label, ‘Accueil vélo’ certification, or even ‘Agriculture Biologique’ for organic farming. The wines of the Luberon are still little known to the general public. All too often we seek sanctuary in the major appellations. But these wines are worth getting to know because they have a unique identity thanks to the region’s beautiful diversity of soils and grape varieties. Also, this is one of the rare appellation areas to be located entirely within a UNESCO-listed Regional Nature Park, and that’s quite something!
The terroir of South Luberon is unique. Located at the meeting point of the Région Sud and the Vallée du Rhône, the vineyards produce outstanding wines in all three colours. Growing at over 300 metres above sea level in stony scree soils that promote drainage and retain heat, the vineyard experiences significant temperature variations, resulting in fresh, aromatic whites and rosés, and full-bodied, elegant reds. Facing due south, it also benefits from the mistral wind, which ensures the healthy condition of the crops.
